meet many people of different backgrounds and cultures etc. Without photography my world would have been rather ordinary and mundane. Photography is used by myself to overcome a natural reserve, because when I sometimes approach people in the street and ask them to pose for my camera and get a good result, then it's another person who otherwise wouldn't have been in my world.

Which are your favourite subjects and techniques?

I'm essentially a people photographer. However, recently I've started to photograph my new surroundings, including the city and of course the shoreline of Lake Ontario. I try to be as unobtrusive as possible, blending in with my surroundings whenever possible.

Do you touch up your photos by using any digital effects?

I'm not a fan of photo manipulation via
Adobe Photoshop or similar image editors. I prefer the time honoured methods of photography. I use conventional film cameras, medium format and 35mm, 90% of my images are shot on conventional black & white film and then the negatives are scanned. The images are then worked on in Adobe Photoshop and if I add anything to the image it's merely a tint of colour as sometimes this enhances the finished product in much the same way if I sepia toned a print in the darkroom. Photoshop has the dodge and burn tools and these are old darkroom methods anyway, so really the transition from conventional darkroom to computer is a natural progression in my opinion.
